01/17/2007 It's Fabulous, It's Glamorous, It's a Picnic!09/18/2006 EDGE Boston, New York, Providence, New England, Provincetown
Main Course I know, I know, when you think gourmet, you think caviar. But at EDGE, we prefer products that don’t cause harm to animals, planets or people. But... look what we found! How could eggs scooped out of pregnant fish make an appearance in this article?
I spoke with Rich Brauman, founder of La Petite Pearle caviar company. He explained the PETA approved process they use, where they anesthetize the fishies to reduce stress, remove the eggs and still use the rest of the fish for steaks and such. They also participate with Caviar Emptor "the PETA of caviar" and do everything they can to ensure their product is safe, cruelty free and sustainable. He also promised me that while "Not everyone is going to be a caviar eater, most people who were hesitant are surprised to find how much they like ours."
Rich is a self-professed environmentalist and animal lover, and obviously is passionate both about conservation and his products (he even quoted Zoolander to me). Worth a try I’d say. You can order a customized, pre-packed picnic basket at www.lapetitepearle.com
